Promote offers, announcements, and partners on the captive portal login — the first page guests see before they buy or enter a voucher. Banner, popup, and scrolling ads all show there for the router the guest is on.
In plain language
Turn ads on, create one or more creatives, target the right routers, and set them to Active. When a guest opens your Hotspot login page online, NettPortal loads matching ads into that page. Views and clicks are tracked under Analytics.
Works on nettportal.com and on a live private ISP custom domain (same login page). Ads are not shown on the guest buy package list. Older stats labeled Guest Buy (legacy) are historical only.
Where to find it
- Open Advertisements under Grow in the sidebar.
- You need settings permission (
viewSettings to view, editSettings to create and edit). - Use the tabs: Ads (creatives), Settings (enable + limits), Analytics (views, clicks, filters).
Ad types
| Type | Where it shows | Notes |
|---|
| Banner | Captive portal login (in the portal card) | Image and/or text. Closable. Optional link opens when the guest taps the card. Position: Top, Center, or Bottom. |
| Popup | Captive portal login (overlay) | One popup at a time (highest priority). Bottom sheet on phones; centered card on larger screens. Close, tap outside, or Escape dismisses it. |
| Scrolling | Captive portal login (ticker) | Text-only marquee. Top or Bottom. Needs router targeting (All routers or specific routers) or it will not show. |
Setup checklist
- Open Settings and enable advertisements.
- Optionally set Max ads per page (banner + scrolling only; the popup is separate).
- Create an ad on the Ads tab: title, type, content/image, position, priority, and optional link.
- Choose targeting: All routers, or pick routers. Scrolling ads require this. Banner and popup without targeting still show on that organization's portal; when targeting is set, it is honored.
- Set status to Active (draft/paused stay hidden).
- Confirm the online captive portal is live for those routers — that is where guests see the ads.
Analytics
The Analytics tab shows views, clicks, CTR, and performance by location. New traffic is recorded as Captive Portal Login.
- Duration: 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or All time.
- Location filter: Captive portal login, or Guest Buy (legacy) for older historical clicks/views.
- Ad type filter: Banner, popup, or scrolling.
- Views over time chart uses the selected range (All time shows the last 30 days of daily activity).
Tips
- Keep banner images short and wide so they fit the login card (about 140px tall).
- Replacing, removing, or deleting a banner/popup image also deletes the old file from storage when no other ad still uses it (saves R2 space).
- Use one clear popup; too many overlays fight the login form.
- Higher priority ads appear first when several match.
- Optional schedules (dates, days, time slots) still apply if you set them.
- Guests must reach the online portal — on nettportal.com or your private ISP custom domain. The router redirect page itself does not render ads.
